FAQ

Design

Do we do custom work?

Sometimes! Depending on our current production volumes, we may have the capacity to help with custom orders. Customizations such as fabric choices are easier to fulfill than creating a cover for a window that we've never done before.

Email us at support@vanmadegear.com to inquire about the possibilities!

Where are our shades made?

We are proud to say that we manufacture 100% of our products here in Portland, Oregon, USA! We also source most of our materials domestically. Come by for a tour of our factory or to say hello!

What is the R-value of our insulation?

R-value is a very subjective unit of measurement, and it's very misleading.

The core insulation material we use is rated up to R-11, but only under very specific and ideal environments that a van will likely never be able to replicate. We are unable to claim any R-Value because we don't have a solid way to measure this.

We do incorporate certain design details that help make the best use of the core insulation though, such as by creating an air gap between the glass and the window shade in areas where that is possible.

Is the marine-grade reflective material worth it?

Yes, it's totally worth it!

We offer this option as an exterior layer for cab-specific shades - i.e. the windshield & both front doors. This way, the biggest and least-tinted windows are repelling even more heat than the others!

Usage

Are our shades reversible?

Yes and no. The windshield and front door shades are reversible because these windows are symmetrical. The front door shades depend on magnets, which are installed on the exterior facing side of the product. When reversed, they still work but will feel less sticky due to the additional amount of material the magnets need to work through. The windshield does not depend on magnets so the best combination to order is black on the inside, and reflective on the outside. This gives you the best of both worlds when it comes to performance vs. stealth.

How do the shades attach when there is only plastic trim?

It's common for passenger model vans to have plastic trim covering all or most of the metal window sill that we normally stick our magnets to. Depending on the van, we either use larger magnets to overcome the plastic, or we include hardware specifically designed to clip to the plastic to create a magnetic surface.

Do our shades help with both heat and cold?

Absolutely! The insulation core consists of a non-toxic foam with aluminum foil laminated on both sides. This helps it act as an excellent thermal barrier, whether you're travelling through the high-desert in July or through the tundra in December. Learn more here.

Care

How do I clean the shades?

The easiest way to clean your new shades is with soapy water and a wet rag. Wipe them down and let them air dry then you should be good to go.

For deeper stains such as from oils, spray with Shout Stain Remover, wait no more than 10 minutes, then rinse it off with running water.

How do they store when not in use?

The front cab set comes with a sleeve to store them when not in use.

All the other windows are designed to stay at the top of the window when not in use, saving you time, effort and precious storage space.

What is the best way to fold them up?

Right there on the window!

We have engineered our products to fold up in a unique way that prevent their edges from flaring out. When folded, our window shades fit in a tighter and more compact space than any other brand out there. You have to see it to believe it!

Certain windows leave very little clearance to work with, and that's why we're the best.

What is your warranty policy?

We stand behind the craftsmanship and durability of our products for life. Use our self-service portal on the website to initiate a claim or write to us at support@vanmadegear.com.

Intentional damage or manipulation that alters the original design of the product is not covered by the warranty.

Shipping

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we can ship internationally! We have happy customers all around the world including New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and all over Europe.

Our website isn't able to calculate the increased shipping, taxes and duties, though, so please email us to inquire about costs. Please include your shipping address and specific items of interest in order for us to provide a quote!

Do we offer expedited orders?

Never hurts to ask! Sometimes we're far too busy to squeeze anything else through the factory, but go ahead and send us an email. We'll try to help you out!
